Ashta Nāga Kalam

Ashta Nāga Kalam is a sacred ritual art of Kerala, centred on the creation of intricate floor drawings that invoke the eight serpent deities using natural pigments. Rooted in the Pulluvan tradition, the kalam is drawn as a temporary, consecrated form of worship. Through this act of sacred making, the ritual honours the Nāgas as guardians and benefactors, invoking protection, balance, and well-being through an expression of ancestral faith.
